For question on E85 and Flex Fuel
Kits, see the tabs at left "What
is E85..." and "About
FF Kits."
How will the Rochester Products
Conversion Kits affect my car's performance?
Octane ratings with any blend of gas
and E85 will increase up to about 100 octane for pure
E85 (85% Ethanol). With increased octane comes increased
performance in engines. In high performance engines
with high compression ratios, high octane ratings
are necessary to prevent detonation (frequently referred
to as "pinging") in engines and can increase
output power significantly. Car engines are intended
to "burn" gas in the engine cylinder in
a controlled manner. Detonation is an explosion of
gas akin to taking a hammer to the piston surface
and can destroy engines quickly.
What if I want to take my E-Fire
unit out of one car and install it in another car?
Assuming that the E-Fire unit is designed
for your other vehicle, it will be easy. You will
need a new Fuel Compatibility Kit as you won't want
to take out all the gaskets and other fuel compatibilty
components that came with the kit.
Will my Rochester Products Conversion
Kit work in Cold Climates?
Yes. One of the main reasons E85 is
15% gasoline is because of the climate issue. Northeast
Brazil has been using 100% alcohol vehicles for many
years. They are used there because it never gets much
below 75 degrees F (24 C). When it does, 100% alcohol
engines have a difficult time starting. The 15% gas
mixed with the ethanol makes for good all year performance.
